At the beginning of May Merkle held its very first European Summit in Barcelona, focusing on the subject of people-based marketing with discussions centred around practical strategies for delivering personalised customer experiences. Over 90 European clients from both Merkle and Comet joined to discuss the future of marketing and hear from client speakers from EE, Warner Brothers, Sainsbury’s, Nestlé, TUI, Dell, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Google. They also heard from main keynote, David Rowan - founding editor-in-chief of WIRED’s UK edition, as well as the many other keynotes, breakout sessions and a client panel. There were also guru sessions during breakfast and lunch where attendees were given the opportunity to speak to subject experts and thought leaders one-on-one as well as representatives from the event sponsors - Pega, IBM, Adobe and Aquila.

The welcome party took place on the pool deck of the hotel, the Melia Sky Barcelona, which offered 360 degree aerial views of the city providing an impressive setting to kick things off. Despite dealing with uncertain weather, at the last minute the sun appeared and the event remained by the pool! For the Summit party the next night, guests were taken up to the beautiful Mirablau restaurant situated on the Barcelona hillside in the foothills of Mount Tibidabo for an evening of wonderful food, views and relaxed conversation. The whole event was a great success with fantastic feeback!
